7 Ways to Gain Mental Strength

“If you hear a voice within you say ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.” — Vincent Van Gogh

Being a strong person mentally is something that a lot of people would like to achieve in life. Most of us at some point (some more than others) will break down mentally. Although this is a normal part of life, most of us would prefer to not be in that state for a prolonged period of time.

Gaining mental strength and clarity in your life is a lot like working out a muscle. At first, it can be painful, but if you keep working at it, over time you will become stronger as a result. Like gaining any kind of strength, mental strength requires a lot of hard work, dedication, and rest.

Here’s some advice to help you build your mental strength and live a happier healthier life as a result.

1. Don’t sweat the Small stuff

Seriously, don’t let the little things bother you so much. Who really cares about something if it is no big deal in the long run? All you are doing by perpetually worrying and focusing on little problems is wearing yourself out emotionally, which actually depletes your mental strength and stability.

2. Detach emotionally from the things that are not important to you

This is similar to the first bullet point. There’s only so much emotion you have to put into certain aspects of your life. Save the sensitively and emotions for the things that matter to you the most.

3. Learn to Accept What You Cannot Control

We all are faced with situations or circumstances that are out of our control. Instead of getting upset and frustrated, accept the scenario for what it is and rise above rather than allow it to make you a miserable person.

4. Learn to Be Content

Allow moments of contentment to enter into your life. It’s important to strive for greatness, but it’s also great to enjoy the moment.

5. Focus on the positive aspects of your life

When you can focus on the positive aspects of your life, you are letting in the energy that ultimately replenishes your mental strength fill you up. This takes work and you must retrain your brain to see the positive.

6. Do the things that revitalize your spirit

This one is important. Especially when you get busy with work and responsibilities, it becomes difficult to fit the things in that revitalize you. Whatever your device may be, playing music, writing poetry, binge-watching movies, whatever it is, it is important to make the time to do it. You must fill yourself up so you do become depleted.

7. Be thankful

Having gratitude is one of the most powerful emotions. It fills you up with love, graciousness, and strength in your life. Most of all, it fills you up with the things you love the most.

Gaining mental strength takes time and dedication, it’s not something that happens overnight, but it is worth the effort. In the end, it will increase your happiness and quality of life.
