What NOT to Do In Order to Be Happy

We have explored many avenues on this blog of things to do to be better happier people, but we have given little advice by way of what NOT to do to be happy, so today we thought it would be fun to look at a few self-fulfilled causes of unhappiness.

So without further ado here are 5 things to stop doing right now in order to be happy!

Stop complaining– this is one that we all do from time to time, but some more than others. We tend to focus on the negative aspects of life and share those negative aspects of our lives with other people. We complain and that complaining is contagious to everyone around us. Instead of complaining, how about we talk about what’s good about the situation or the day or anything at all. That’s contagious too.

Stop pacifying -Stop hiding behind television screens and cell phones. Stop playing so many video games and looking through Facebook for hours on end. The same goes for drugs and alcohol or food. Anything that you’re using to pacify yourself and not think about the feelings you possess.  Get out and enjoy your time. Enjoy your friends, be with people you love. Laugh for the sake of laughing, love the sake of loving, but stop pacifying yourself all the time. Hobbies are meant to enhance the life you already have rather than used to ignore your life. Time is something you can never get back, so don’t make the mistake of wasting it away on meaningless activities.

Stop criticizing– Stop criticizing yourself and the people around you. Instead, start complimenting yourself and the people around you. For example, rather than making a comment about how messy your kids are, try to focus on the positive aspects of your kids and give them credit for helping out when they did.  This is not to say people should not pick up after themselves, only that there are other things to spend your time pointing out. Criticism hurts. Remember to look at the good as well as the bad. When you point out these things to other people it hurts their feelings and brings them down. So just don’t do it.

Stop worrying all the time-Stop worrying about everything all of the time and start focusing on “right now” instead. When we worry too much, we forget to enjoy what’s happening right now in front of us. Try to stay in the moment and leave the worry behind.

Stop caring so much about what other people think of you– Seriously, stop caring about the things that you have absolutely no control over whatsoever. If somebody decides to dislike you for any reason, that is their choice. You fretting about it is not going to change a thing except for how you feel.

It might be hard to believe right now, but by leaving these behaviors behind you will have a better happier healthier life. The caring about what other people think, the incessant worrying about things that are out of your control, the criticizing, the complaining, all those things are poison to your life. The more you feed it to your spirit, the sadder it becomes. Don’t give these thoughts a place to abide and grow, no matter how tantalizing it might be in the moment. What will it take for you to change your mindset to be happy?  Let us know what you think in the comments below.
