Stop Neglecting Yourself and Defeat Loneliness For Good

Here is a fact about the loneliness that many people don’t understand. Loneliness is a state of mind. You can be in a relationship, have a family, and even have loved ones surrounding you all of the time and still feel lonely. Many feel defeated by loneliness and must learn how to defeat loneliness.

Everyone feels lonely sometimes, that’s natural. To some extent, we are all alone in this world, although we may choose to share our lives with other people. There is a point where loneliness becomes unhealthy. When the loneliness is accompanied by sadness, loss, worthlessness, or any other negative associations then it is time to do something about it.

Here’s how to stop neglecting yourself and defeat loneliness for good.

Embrace the Emotion –

In addition to being a state of mind, loneliness is also an emotion and a powerful one too that will dominate all other emotions. What you need to know is that it’s OK to embrace this emotion. Allow yourself to experience it fully.  In order to do this, you must accept that the emotion is there. Once you are aware of what it is, then it will have less power over you and you can stop it from overtaking your life. Recognizing that the loneliness is there is the first step to being able to overcome it.

Force yourself to stay in close contact with friends –

Oddly enough people who are lonely also tend to push other people away or isolate themselves. Again because this is a state of mind, it can be very difficult to find your way out. When you feel lonely, don’t hesitate to reach out to friends and loved ones. To stay in contact with those around you is key to overcoming loneliness.

Don’t be afraid to get to know yourself-

Many people feel uncomfortable when they’re alone. However, this can actually be a really great time if you properly get to know yourself. Think about it: you can do what you want to do. You can eat would you want to eat. There’s no one else there to tell you what to do. Don’t be afraid to treat yourself.  Do something that YOU enjoy. Stay in and watch a movie. Order a pizza for yourself with all YOUR favorite toppings. Whatever your device, learn to enjoy your alone time and become revived from it.

Immerse yourself in something you love to do-

If you’re a big reader, cuddle up on the couch with a book and spend the entire evening experiencing the story. If you love to paint, wrap all your feelings and emotions of loneliness together in place them on the canvas. If you love movies, have a movie night.  Do you love to be outside? Then take a walk, stroll the beach, sit on a park bench and observe and listen to the birds. Watch TV, play video games, take the time to do the things that will recharge your battery.

Spend time playing with your pets-

This might sound silly, but pets can make you feel very full. They are also a great way to pass the time. Dogs love to go out for walks, play fetch, and get their bellies rubbed. When you’re feeling lonely force yourself to do something for your pet. You’ll both be better off for it.

Loneliness is not about being around people, that’s what many fail to understand. When you’re feeling lonely, you literally could be in a ginormous room full of people, dear friends, and loved ones and still feel alone.

You are the only person who can break the cycle. No one else can. Ironic right, that in order to stop being lonely sometimes you must learn to be happy being alone. Loneliness is a sign not that you are being neglected, but that you are neglecting yourself and your own needs. It’s a sign that it’s time to become in touch with yourself and your spiritual needs. This brings us to another good point. What fuels your spirit? Fill yourself up and the rest will fall into place. Thanks for reading, come back visit us again soon!
