Six Healthy Habits to Start Doing Today!

When it’s time to make healthy life changes you’ll know it! That feeling of guilt when you overeat too many sweets, or when you are going to work overtired and maybe even hungover are signs that a lifestyle change may not be such a bad idea. As summer comes to an end, kids are going back to school and starting new schedules, it gives us adults a nice opportunity to examine ways we can better ourselves too. Here are some healthy habits you can start implementing today that will help you lead a healthier and hopefully happier lifestyle.

6 Healthy Habits

Get better sleep:

Sleep yes, you know that thing that you never do because you’re too busy working, cleaning the house and helping your kids with their homework? Better sleep makes for better brain functioning during the day. It decreases anxiety and depression and well it makes your day a whole lot easier. Try going to bed an hour or two earlier the night before and see your Life improve, literally, overnight.

Stop polluting your body:

Yep, that’s right. What you choose to put into your body for food and nutrients is a big part of how you feel. When you eat healthy whole foods, fruits, and vegetables, your energy levels go up. Another cause of stress and anxiety is processed foods and good food reduces bad stress.  Your body is your temple, so don’t forget to treat it that way.

Spend less time on the screen:

This one we’ve been talking about a lot lately. Try taking more breaks from the cell phone and giving yourself some more meaningful life experiences. Go for a walk or a hike, go biking, spend time with your significant other or write In your journal. Do anything, except for being on the screen.

Go for a walk a day:

According to the website mayoclinic.org, walking can: “Prevent or manage various conditions, including heart disease, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes, Strengthen your bones and muscles
Improve your mood, Improve your balance and coordination.” Need we say more!?

Spend time with loved ones:

We are not always aware of the fact that life is short. There is no such thing as too much time with the people you love. In fact, when all is said and done no time is ever enough time with the ones we hold most dear. Take this advice from us now and spend as much time as you can with your loved ones. There is no single more important thing in the universe.

Drink less alcohol:

Drinking alcohol can be fun. The hangover the next day, not so much. The effects on your body from the booze, not so much. We’re not saying cut it out completely, just cut back. Your brain will thank you! Some health benefits are better rest, brighter mood, weight loss, increased energy, and higher brain function.

Any lifestyle changes take courage and dedication, but in the end, it is so worth the effort. Sometimes it’s easier to start off small. If you want to lose weight, for example, don’t start winning a weight loss goal, start with a walk a day and go from there. Wherever you begin, remember, the change starts within. Good luck!
